Reiki FAQ

Hypnosis is a way to access the subconscious part of the mind using relaxation exercises which are used to take the mind into a daydream type of state.

WE CAN HELP YOU

Examples of problems that can be assisted with Hypnosis: Anxiety, panic attacks, depression, post-natal depression, stress, confidence, addictions, smoking, weight control (see also Hypnos-Band Weight Loss System), unable to cope with the loss of a loved one, emotional problems, eating disorder, sexual problems, insomnia, childbirth, marital and relationship issues, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and phobias etc...

Simple therapies: Nail biting, exam nerves, weight control etc... A single session should be sufficient. Some other treatments may take two or three sessions, but this will be discussed in the initial free consultation.

Smoking: Hypnotherapy is by far the most effective way to stop smoking. The techniques used have an extremely high success rate. The clients are fully expected to stop smoking after just one session.

Under hypnosis, the conscious rational and reasoning part of the mind is temporarily bypass to some degree. Therefore, this allows access to the inner and normally closed part of the mind, more commonly known as the subconscious.

Whilst in this very relaxed state, the client’s metabolism slows down; the heartbeat and breathing are reduced. The brainwave patterns change and produce Alpha waves like it does  in deep meditation.

Hypnosis works by revealing the subconscious mind, while suppressing the conscious mind. The subconscious mind is deeper-seated than the conscious mind, which needs to be reprogrammed to change the patient’s behaviour and physical state.

For example, people consciously use everything they can to overcome a phobia, but the phobia still exists as long as their subconscious mind still has the problem. So it is this subconscious mind that needs to be reprogrammed to overcome the problem.

Most people have been under light hypnosis every day probably without realising it. It occurs naturally when one is focused on what one is doing.

For example: Have you ever been reading a good book or engrossed in a TV programme, then someone enters the room? You are so engrossed in what you are doing that you are barely aware of their presence, let alone them talking to you. When this happens, you are under a light hypnosis which is a perfectly natural state of mind.

One more example of light hypnosis that many of you who drive may be familiar with is: You are driving along familiar stretch of road. After reaching your destination, you may not remember driving past a certain house or even a village. You have been in a gentle form of hypnosis, and in doing this, you have handed the controls over to your subconscious ‘autopilot’. There is never any worry at this stage as in case of emergency, your ‘autopilot’ is ready, willing and able to hand back control and responsibility to the rational and decision-making conscious mind.

Hypnosis produce a deeper contact with one’s emotional life, resulting in some lifting of repressions and exposure of buried fears and conflicts.

Hypnosis deals with a variety of symptoms that any of us could fall victim to at any time in our lives. The focus is to home in on the adverse effects that stress and anxiety have upon our bodies and minds, causing everything from formation of habits, phobias, to full blown nervous disorders.

PHOBIAS

Phobia is a persistent abnormal or irrational fear of a specific thing or situation which is usually life controlling.

Phobias can have a devastating effect on a person’s private and social life. What may seem small and insignificant to many of us, can in fact be so intense to the person who has this phobia that it impairs their freedom. Severely phobic people can lead a very constricted life. The anxiety they suffer is typically out of proportion to their real situation, and they are fully aware that their fear is irrational.

The anxiety is characterised by physiological symptoms such as rapid, pounding heartbeat, stomach disorder, nausea, diarrhoea, frequent urination, chocking feelings, flushing of the face, tremulousness and even faintness.

However, some people with phobias are able to confront their fears. Most commonly, the sufferers avoid the situation or object that cause their fear which will impair their freedom.

The simple phobias, especially the fear of certain animals may begin in childhood and persist in adulthood.

Fear and phobia sufferers know what prompts their attacks such as spiders, moths, flying, driving, heights, lifts, blood, death, dentists, doctors, snakes, water, the dark, public toilets, open spaces, crowded places. The list could go on....

They are three major types of phobias:

1. Simple phobias: Fear of specific objects or situations such as animals (spiders, snakes, birds) or closed spaces and heights.

2. Agoraphobia: Fear of open, public places and situations such as buses, trains and crowded shopping centres from which escape is difficult. Agoraphobics tend increasingly to avoid more situations until they eventually become housebound.

3. Social phobias: Animal phobias and social phobias tend to run in families. According to individual situation, the technique used to confront the appropriate phobia will differ.

Hypnotherapy is an excellent way of dealing with phobias. The aim of the therapy is to find and relieve the inner anxiety . It is also an excellent way to aid fears as the therapy makes the client put the bad experience into a true perspective and see it in a new light so that for example, a fear of spiders would be replaced by a more appropriate response.
